The Grand Island Memorial Library, located at 1715 Bedell Road in Veterans Park, was founded in 1945 as a tribute to those who served their country in time of conflict. Now chartered as a town public library, it is administered by five trustees who are appointed by the Town Board to serve five-year terms. In its collection of 60,000 titles, the Library has available for the public books, magazines, books on cassette, compact discs, musical cassettes and videos. Also available is a microfilm reader, printer and a copy machine. A meeting room a capacity of 100 persons is available for community groups. As a member of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library System, Grand Island Memorial Library access to the books and other materials of the entire system- Grand Island residents can request a book f any library in the system/Also available to Island residents are various Infotrac Databases. Currently receive the Health Reference Center, General Reference Center and the General Business file. A library card issued at Grand Island may be used in any public library in Erie County. The Library is supported by the Town of Grand Island, which owns and maintains the building. County of Erie funds staff, utilities, books, materials and equipment. The Friends of the Library, with funds raised from used book sales, provides additional books and equipment and supports children's programs. Donations from community groups and memorial funds also augment the Library's budget. They meet quarterly on Thursdays at 7:30 pm at the Library.
